President-elect Barack Obama's Chief of staff, Rham Emanuel, said that Obama started looking at names of possible cabinet members before he was even elected. With our current economic crisis there is no time to waste... something needs to get started immediately. Emanuel said that Obama will help the American people by first getting his cabinet, the government, and his policies in place. The sooner he chooses his cabinet members the better so that way things can hopefully get started on a better track quicker.

To get American back on its feet the economy definately needs to be taken care of. Bob Schieffer asked Emanuel if there will be a bailout that involves the auto industry in Obama's plans. Emanuel stated that Obama has already asked his team to come up with plans to help out the auto industry because this industry plays a major role in our economy. We also need to work on becoming energy independent and create education and healthcare reforms. Not everything will be fixed at once, but hopefully once things get started our economy will gradually become better.

The economic plan Barack Obama has is to give the middle class a tax cut. The middle class is defined by Barack Obama has anyone or family who makes under $250,000.00. And the reason for the middle class was his base was because he knew they were working to hard for less money, and paying more money in taxes and Barack Obama knows that, that’s not how to keep a strong economy. The senate right now is going through proposals to fix the economy. Right now there are over 10 million people who are unemployed. Barack Obama has urged the senate, and both sides, Democratic and Republicans to pass a plan as quickly as possible, but its unknown if Barack Obama himself will be there, due to the fact that he is working on getting his team together. Barack Obama also said that the auto industry should be part of the economic plan. The auto industry is an essential part to our economy and our industrial based. Also Washington needs to fast forward the 25 billion dollars to help them get back on there feet so they can produce more fuel efficient cars.

The reason putting a team together is so important now, is so that when Barack Obama gets sworn in, his policies will be enforced as soon as possible so that the American people will get the help they need as soon as people, especially the middle class. If Obama can get some good, solid policies on the table now, when January 20th 2009 comes around, his polices can be put into action. Barack Obama understands that if the middle class is doing well, America as a whole will do well. The problem with Republican values is that, tax the upper class less, things will trickle down and all will prosper and as we can see, the past eight years have put America in the biggest economic depict since the great depression. I think that since Barack Obama is taking his time to set up his economic team, and policies America will benefit from it.

This week on Face the Nation Bob Schieffer interviewed Chief of Staff Rham Emanuel about the significant of Obama’s agenda. Obama is moving quickly on setting up the White House and choosing his cabinets as we speak to help prepare his role as President of the United States. Obama is getting his economic team in order quickly because he doesn’t want to waste any time and an economic crisis isn’t something that should be put off. As Rham Emanuel said Obama wants to accomplish many things like setting up White House and cabinet members, creating a recovery act that deals with unemployment, retail sales, energy, and healthcare. He also said that the middle class is the focus and would like to accomplish a short-term economic act that builds up everything from tax rebate to reforming education, city roads, bridges, and so much more. Emanuel calls the auto industry the “essential part of the economy” and has gathered plans to help the auto industry. Helping the auto industry can benefits in energy plan and economic issues. Later on the show there was a comparison with FDR and the expectation the people had in a “big bang theory” in which all problems get solve at once and fast. That to me plays a role in Obama’s speedy pace. Do I think a “big bang theory” will happen… no, do I have hope for it… of course.

On Face the Nation Rahm Emanual explains the situations and crisis Obama is willing to face. Emanual states that Obama wants to help the middle class and he is trying to pass a recovery act. Obama is staying in Chicago to outline his economic team so when they hit Washington they can get rolling into action. In the show they also talked about auto industries and about oil, how they will try to get better strategies for every class. In the middle class they want to focus on them and reward a $1000 tax cut to them. When asked was his Obama's priority Rahm states, we all need an economic strategy, several problems being short term to long. He proceeds in saying the short term need in trying to help the middle class, to long term in helping the country uphold to its money problems.
It is very important for Obama to get his team ready so they can start proceeding with the economic issues they have. Obama wants to move on a paste on whom he is going to be choosing when the issues are going to begin to be solved. He is going to start setting up his cabinet as well. There are about 20 million people in the United States that are currently jobless. His main issue is to create a recovery act.

This week on Face the Nation, Rahm Emanuel spoke about the economic crisis and president-elect Barack Obama's plans to confront the issue. When Bob Schieffer asked him when Obama was going to get his economic team in place, Emanuel didn't give a direct answer, but he did say that Obama wants to move with "deliberate haste. Emphasis on deliberate, equal emphasis on haste". Emanuel also claims that Obama is in Chicago setting up his economic team along with policies that he wants to enforce so that he can work quickly (or with "deliberate haste") when he is sworn in. He also spoke about tax cuts. Emanuel stated that Obama's economic plan "provides the middle class, working Americans, 95% of them, a $1000 tax cut". In addition to that, "we must deal with our educational reforms, energy reforms and health care reforms". He claims that all of these things will "strengthen America for the long term economically". When we begin to enforce these plans and create jobs by building roads and bridges, America should be able to get back on it's economic feet.

It seemed like Bob Schieffer was trying to urge Rahm Emanuel to give him some answers, but he wasn't really giving them to him. I personally didn't get any new information from watching this interview. I knew that Obama was building up his economic staff, and I've already heard his plans to get the country back on it's feet. Rahm Emanuel was just restating what Obama has already said. The only new thing I heard was "deliberate haste", which is just another way of saying that we need to move quickly. This idea was already emphasized in the second presidential debate. It is important for Obama to put his economic team together quickly because we're in an economic crisis. The economy can plummet to the point of no return at any moment. That's why Obama needs to move quickly, so that he can put economic policies together with his economic team before he gets into office. Despite the fact that gas prices are going down, the economy is still unstable. We need to stay aware, and Obama needs to continue to work quickly but carefully. Hopefully President George Bush will do something towards restabilizing our economy before he gets out of office.

Developing this team is important, the public are already excepting some action, but President-elect Obama hasn't got his team fully set up. Chief of Staff,Rham Emanuel, said the first thing that President-elect Obama wants to do is to make a Economic Team, and finish selecting his Cabinet members. Second President Obama wants to help start the Economic Recovery plan. "Is he going to be on the economic floor?" Mr. Schieffer asked; Emanuel doesn't answer the question directly, he replied by saying that "It is imperative that Washington needs to get to work." President-elect has encourage Washington to move immediately to give America what they wants. Mr.Emanuel says that this Economic Recovery Plan will help hurting Americans, but Emanuel didn't describe the Americans that fall in that category. Also President- elect Obama asked his Economic team to retool a plan for the Auto industry.

" President-elect Obama has repeat that there is one president and one administration at a time and you don't want to get in front of that."(Rham Emanuel)
It is almost a week since Barack Obama is elected to be our 44th president. Rham Emanuel, Chief of Staff, has stressed in this interview the rush of getting President-elect ready to be in the White House. President Bush is still in office, so Obama can't just go in and take over. I don't think most Americans understand that President-elect doesn't have presidential power. All that President Obama can do is encourage Washington to set up the Economic Recovery Plan. The good thing is that President Obama is there to be apart of it.

While interviewing Rahm Emanuel, he illustrates the plan and basic itinerary for President elect Obama. "...Move with deliberate haste..." President elect Obama does not want to waste time. As soon as he is initiated as president, he wants to shoot off and have a foot in the door on his policy and plans. "...Set up house, then cabinet..." President elect Obama has already begun to speak with economists and is looking at names for his cabinet. It's important for Obama to make his cabinet soon because it would be a lot more convenient to get his plans into action when he is inaugurated. Obama has a plan to pass a policy for a economic bail-out which will help to get the millions of Americans that are unemployed, as well as, getting people their health care back. "...President elect Obama has asked his economic supervisors to come up with some policies...". "...Plan made on the premise of the middle class...Basis strategy is that we need to focus on the stress and strains of the middle class..." President elect Obama is trying to lower the taxes on middle class so that we are not left with little of our earnings.

I believe that President elect Obama needs, not only to make his cabinet, but to take the time to grieve and spend time with his family for at least a week. With all the depressing events that has happened in the past few weeks, it would be really bad for it to hold him back. President elect Obama needs to make sure to put his mind at rest before he tackles the nations problems; though, I do believe that his policy needs to be decided upon quickly so that he can press upon the urgency of solving our problems.

When Rham Enamuel was asked how long it would take Obama to have his economic team ready, his answers were very vague. He didn't give a specific time frame. He simply stated that he had begun to look at names even before he was the president elect. This is an important issue because the public wants change and they want it right now. But the only problem with that is that Obama is only the president elect, he has no authority yet.

Obama's plans to get our economy back on its feet were pretty much the same. He is going to cut taxes for the middle class, an education reform, and making health care affordable. He has made proposals to help the auto industry since they play an important role in our economy. The only thing Rham didn't specify was what Obama was going to do first. According to David Brook it seems like he is going to go through with the Big Bang Theory, and that will end in disaster. I think that the interview would have been more informative if Bob would have interviewed Obama because none of the questions that were asked were actually answered.

Re: Travis

Most definitely, since President-elect Obama is getting policies in order before the day he gets sworn in, things will be getting a head start. But we all know that the things Obama promised will take more time than 4 years.

Re: Leo

Yep, President-elect Obama is being in a hurry because of economic crisis. Though President-elect Obama wants to get things started but like Mr. Emanuel said, Obama doesn't want too take over and cause a problem.
"President-elect Obama has repeat that there is one president and one administration at a time and you don't want to get in front of that."

RE: Ryan

I agree with your comment. Obama needs to take some time to clear his mind so when he is president, he won't be as stressed. We have a lot of issues that we need him to solve so he needs to be calm and cool so he can deal with them appropriately.

RE: Leo

I agree with your comment. The interview would have been more informative if Obama was being interviewed. Rham Emanuel didn't want to specify anything because he is not in charge he was simply a messanger. That was a waste of an interview because he simply summarized all of Obama's plans.

obama's chief of staff Rham Emanuel addressed a lot of obama's stradgey as the new president. he said that obama had already been establishing his cabinet befor he was elected. to me thats very smart in general but he had reason, because of the crisis we are in there is really no time to waist. the reason rham expresses the fact that obama has to get his economic team together a.s.a.p is because this crisis needs to be fixed before or country can begin further endevours. he talked about the relevance of obama choosing his cabinet so quickly because we need to promptly fix this crisis and the sooner the cabinet is figured out the sooner they can get to work and solve these problems

Rham also shares Obama's plan of action to get America back on its feet. stating the importance of the automobile industry is a essential part of our economy so we have to build that up. also we need to get away from dependance on foreign oil. his economic plan is based on the fact that middles class works hard gets paid less and pays more. so his plan consist of a $1000 tax cuts of the middle class. Rham also states to get the economy back booming we need to work on the educational reform energy reforms deal with health care reform as well as tax reform taxes and he states that all of those are part of the economic plan and that will not only set america up for immediate change but also a long term recovery.

i think that everyone can agree that the rush on the economic team is relevant due the crisis america is in. the quicker his team is built the quicker they can come up with soultions to the crisis and but plans into action. we need to fix this crisis before further plans can we persued as well. Bob schieffer stated in the show that because of this crisis obama will probably not be able to fullfill everything he promised in his campaign due to all the work and time this crisis will intell to get fixed.

RE: LEO

I agree with you, I also did not get anything from the interview. I felt that it would have been better to get more information on Emanuel personally. We've all heard Obama's plans on what he wants to do as President and Emanuel emphasizing on it once again seemed superfluous to me. It is time for us to get to know the people Obama will be working with.

RE: TRAVIS

I agree that Obama is doing well in establishing his policies slowly and carefully especially since the ones that will be affected by these policies will be us. With well thought out plans our economy is more likey to shapen-up, we may have to wait a while but I really think things will have a better chance of getting better for us.

RE: Leo
I know what you mean when you say it seemed like Bob Schieffer was trying to get answers out of Rahm Emanuel, and that you didn’t get any new information out of the interview. The whole time it seemed like Rahm Emanuel’s answers were never good enough. I think that Barack Obama is taking his time to assemble his economic team. We probably won’t find anything new about Barack Obamas plans until his plans actually happen.

Re: Jessica
I agree when you say that Obama needs to hurry up and assemble his team so that when January 20th 2009 comes around he can enforce his policies right away. America can’t handle any more of this economic slid, we need to get back on track and start getting people back to work. When there’s no work for Americans, less programs like social security benefit, and there’s only about 10 million people who are jobless, but it could reach 20 million if we don’t fix things.

Re: Amber

I agree with you comment and this was a good question that Bob Schieffer asked about the auto industry. I think that they should definately take a look at because it is sad that other brands from forgeing counries are taking over this country when we were the ones who started the auto insurance and they need to find a way to get Americans to buy automobiles from American brands.

Re: Jessica

I agree with your comment and about how Obama's first priority should be the middle class because thats where the 20 million of people who don't have a job come from. I believe that he should have an economic recovery right away but also for businesses so that they start hiring all this people back and everything can slowly start going back to normal.

RE: Amber

I agree that the economy needs to be taken care of if we want America to get back on its feet. You also made a good point that not everything will be fixed at once. Obama has a lot of long term plans in store for us, and we need to be patient. The economic crisis isn't going to be fixed in a day. We need to stay calm and have faith in Obama's abilities when he is in office.

Re: Leo

I completely agree about Rham Emanuel. When Bob Schieffer asked him questions, many times Emanuel didnt give direct answers. I found this quite annoying and he appeared almost sneaky-like to me because of his lack of answering questions. Also, i believe that Bush should try to stabilize the economy before he leaves office so Obama will have a head start on things. Something definately needs to be done as soon as possible.

RE: Ariel

I disagree with this portion of your comment: "I don't think most Americans understand that President-elect doesn't have presidential power".
I think that the people are just anxious to get Obama in office. People are sick and tired of this economic crisis and the recession. As I said in my comment, Although gas prices are going down here, the economy is still unstable. People are still uneasy about spending. Its not that the people don't understand that Obama doesn't have presidential power yet, its just that they voted for change and they want it as soon as possible. That's what I think.

This is true. People expect Obama to change things right away, but he cant exactly do so because he isnt officially in office until January of next year. He is working on putting his cabinet together and he has plans to hopefully help the economy. We can only wait it out with hopes that Obama will be able to help struggling America.

RE: Travis

I agree with what you are saying because the sooner that President elect Obama gets his team together and gets his proposals thought up, the easier it will be when he is inaugurated. I also agree on the fact that you said that the Repulican view to tax less on the rich will only trickle down. If the rich were to be taxed less, the middle class would be paying even more on taxes than they already are.

Anonymous said...

RE: Jessica

I agree with you on the fact that President elect Obama needs to help the middle class people because it would benefit more than just the middle class people. By lowering the taxes on middle class people means more money in their pocket. The more money they have, the more money they'll spend to boost our retail economy. The more money spent means the more product the consumer gets and the more profit the manufacturer receives.

Re: Amber
I agree with you on the urgency of getting his economic team together quickly, becuase the faster Barack Obama gets a team together, the faster they can start working towards solutions for the crisis. I also agree that the automotive industry is a huge contributor to the American economy, and without it, the economy would surely collapse.

Jake said...

Re: Travis
I agree with the fact that american automotive companies do need that jumpstart that the bailout would provide, and with the way gas prices have been in the last 4 or 5 years, fuel efficiency is key. Also i agree with the notion that the faster Barack Obama gets his economic team together, the faster they will be able to start tackling the crisis.

RE: Jessica G

I agree with you that people want change now but President elect Obama has no authority till Jan 20. All people want to see is change, something Obama promised America. People need to understand that he has nonppwer till president Bush is out of the White house.

RE: Ryan

I agree that President-elect Obama does need to take some to gather his thoughts and straighten out his mind because the people need a clear-minded President. With the United States in it’s current status, Obama cannot have a clouded mind in making his decisions to solve the nation’s problems. Once his mind is clear, then he can go forward with full force.

RE: Amber

I agree that the economy has to be taken care of in order to get America back on its feet. It's true that not everything will be fixed at once. It's not an overnight process, and it needs a lot of time to heal this nation. Things need to be done on a day-to-day basis and only then will this nation will be able to recover, not only in the economy, but in many, if not all, of the current issues.
