On This Week, John McCain came by to give his first post election interview and laid out what the GOP needs to do to adapt to the changing world. Give me 5 aspects John McCain discussed concerning his campaign and how he will help change the GOP party for the future. Like always BE SPECIFIC and tell me your opinion on the interview.

On This Week, John McCain gave 5 aspects that GOP needs to focus on. "Restrain spending, be conservative in the best way and focus on national security issues." But these three issues isn't the important item on the "to do" list. John McCain said that Bush had 43% of Hispanics in 2004 and he had 31%. "One of the issues that is addressed very seriously is the Hispanic participation in the Republican Party." So two other aspects that GOP needs to do, as John McCain said, is that republicans need to recruit and elect candidates that are not only Hispanics but African Americans as well.
I think it is wonderful that the Republican party is recruiting more people to their party lines. McCain says that it is important to have the support of the minority. But has everyone is seeing the minority is the majority. It was the minority (Hispanics and African Americans) that voted for Obama. Plus McCain implied that the Republican party mostly consist of Caucasian. So I feel its get that they are broaden their base but sticking to the ideals of President Lincoln, President Roosevelt, and President Regan.
Five different things that McCain discussed on This Week were: uniting the Democrats and Republicans, signing a package that will help the country get better, issues with the auto industry, gaining more supporters, and changing the way business is run. He first said that the two parties need to unite because, "People don't care about party labels right now... the nation wants us to unite and work togther." The parties need to then work on a plan to help change America in good ways. McCain wants aid for homeowners and social security to be included in the package. Another package he discussed was the auto bailout. McCain doesnt believe that the auto industries should be helped because they will only end up in the same position they are in months from now. He did say "I will do anything to help as long as we are sure they will make the fundamental changes." Finally, in order to help the republicans McCain said that they need to gain more representation and support from the hispanic population since that particular population is increasing alot.
In my opinion, i think McCain plans sounded reasonable and responsible. We dont have time for party rivalry at the moment because something needs to get started fast. I also found it kinda ironic that McCain said that he wouldnt support Palin if she ran for presidency. He must have realized that she clearly wasnt the right pick in order for him to have a chance at winning this past election.
On "This Week" John McCain stated that right now everyone "should be working constructively together". He feels that in order to rebuild the country the GOP and Democratic Party need to work together on an economic plan and any other reform plan that may be needed. He feels that "the American people don't care about party labels". McCain's analysis of the Republican Party is that "we have to get back to doing business the way Republicans say they used to." Other aspects McCain feels the party should work on are restraining spending by being "conservative in the best way", and concentrating on national security issues. He also feels it's important to get hispanic participation in the national party. He states, "President Bush got 43% of the Hispanic vote in 2004, I got 31%, we Republicans are gonna have to recruit and elect Hispanic candidates to office...". He concludes that it is important to broaden the base while staying true to the party principles.
I aspect I agree with most is electing more Hispanics into the Republican Party. I feel it is an important point he made that Hispanics are a big part of our population and they should be taken into consideration more. One part of the show I found interesting was when George asked McCain if he would support Sarah Palin if she were to run for President. It was strange to me that he said no now when just a few months ago he was fine with her taking over the presidency if something were to happen to him.

He said that the two parties need to work together in order to help the American people get out of this situation. He also commented on Obamas plans to create jobs and said that he was willing to support him. However, another thing he talked about was that Obama needs to also fucous on the long term effect of this plans, he said that this was an excellent time to do some examination on government agencies to make sure they are doing what they are supposed to do and also to try and stop corruption in this agencies. During this interview he was asked why had he not approved the bailout for the big 3 when during his campaign he had said he was going to help them? He said that the reason on how he voted was because the automobile companies had not made the fundamental changes needed for this industries to survive and that what this bailout was going to do was to just keep them alive for another few months. I completely agree on this because I too don't see the point on giving them money when they haven't made any changes to their operation system and all this money is going to do is to extend the time they stay alive for a few months longer.
Another ineresting topic was the war. McCain said that he was willing to work with Obama on the challanges of the was in Afhganistan, India, and Pakistan. This was a little bit ironic because during his campaing he always said that Obama was prepared enough and that he did not have experience to deal with foreign problems but now it turns out that he agrees on almost every plan that Obama has for the war overseas. The last topic that McCain discussed was concerning Hispanics and Africans-Americans. He said that the Republican party needs to adapt to this country since this minority groups make up a lagre percentage in the American people and unfortunately their support for the Republican party has decreased since the 2004 election. One last interesting comment that McCain mentioned was that he will NOT support Governor Palin if she was to run for president of the United States!!!

On This Week John McCain came on to talk about issues with America and also changes that America and the GOP need to make to help our economy in these grim days. During the interview he listed five things that the GOP need to do if they want to keep the party alive. First of McCain says that they need to restrain spending, a aspect the Republican have always tried to stand by. Second be conservative in the best possible ways. By saying this I think he means to stay true to their faith and where they stand on issues like abortion. Next McCain said that we need to concentrate on national security. We are very vulnerable right now, so we need to keep are security strong. McCain adds that a major aspect that needs to be changed is that they need to get more Hispanic participation in the Republican party. A action they are trying to take is getting more Hispanic influence by have them elected in to public office. Lastly McCain says that the GOP need support from the African American community. I think this will be the most difficult on the fact that Obama is a African American himself, which will keep most of the African American support with him on the Democratic side. McCain also said that he expects these upcoming governors (not including Palin) to bring more strength to the GOP. McCain says that he will work with Obama as much as possible to help bring the country, and have other Republicans help so that people can realize that the GOP is a party that can be trusted once again.
My opinion on this interview is a little iffy. McCain’s words kind of confused me at times, like when he was told they could be the next Hoover party he said that he appreciated the remark. Also he seems a little off in my opinion. His tie was not on very well, his eyes looked kind of dull and out in space at times. I just don’t think he really wanted to be there, but that’s just my opinion.

I agree that McCain is on point with what he believes the Republican Party should work on. It is plainly clear that the American people did not base their votes in the past election on a party but rather the plans each party had. I too believe that McCain may have realized that choosing Palin as his VP was not the wisest choice and in assuming that he would gain more votes just because she is a female.

I agree with you when you commented that it seemed as if McCain did not want to be there. But I do feel that he got a lot of points across. Points such as that it is time to get the minorities to become more involved in the Republican Party since it was most obvious that in the past election the minorities identified themselves more with the Democrats.
On this week John McCain explained that we haven't seen economic challenges therefore we should all be working constructively together. McCain says the people want the White House to fix problems. Both Democrats and Republicans are coming together to work everything out. To fix the GOP both of the parties must work together. We need a plan to get create more jobs so people won't become homeless. As for the car industry, he believes that the auto industry should be in a similar bankruptcy aspect where everyone sits down, and talk about the problems that need to be fix. Another different thing John McCain listed was he said George W. Bush received 43% of Hispanics on 2004 itself.
From what I received from all of this is John McCain is trying to be more involved and wants our economy to get better, and whats the younger population/minority to become more involved. IT took me by surprise though we McCain was asked if he would support Sarah Palin if she was ever to run for president. Its weird because if something bad was to happen to McCain, Sarah Palin would have to step in......

He also talked about the hispanic population and its participation in the Republican party. Basically we was saying the we as a country need to unite all together as one, rather than a bunch of groups that are in the same country.
I liked the interview because I feel like we are finally getting to know the real John McCain. Rather then the one that was so worried about votes. Plus, (like you said in today lecture) I don't think that he was trying to further any "one" persons agenda. I felt like he was really speaking from the heart and telling us, what his beliefs are not the party's beliefs. And I'm happy that he wants the party to have more diversity rather than it just being the old white men like he has now. I enjoyed the interview.

John McCain did give off a dull atmosphere during the interview. He did seem like he didn't want to be there, but you have to admit that adding diversity to the Republican party can color things up (no pun intended). Yeah Obama racks up the African American supporters, but probably after this race the GOP now knows that more people with different ethnicity in a convention will open peoples eyes.

I also think that the Republican Party needs to broaden their voter range. They should focus on trying to recruit more hispanics and african americans, rather than just the usual caucasian majority. By gaining the minority vote, the Republican Party might have a chance in future elections.

I don’t think the republicans have what it takes to gain the votes of the bulk of the African American community, at least not until Obama leaves office. It's plainly because Obama is black also. But once Obama leaves office I have the feeling they will abandon the quest to gain the black community's vote. If they really wanted their vote they would have tried to gain it before a black man won the presidency.

I didn't get a chance to watch this show, but I too am surprised that McCain said that he wouldn't support Palin if she ran for president. It is certainly ironic how he trusted her as vice president just a few months ago, meaning that she would be next in line for president, but now he doesn't. I think he has realized that the risk he took by selecting Palin wasn't worth it. I feel bad for the guy. He had so many options.

I do agree that recruiting more Hispanics and Africans Americans would be a good idea for the Republican party. However, I don't know how easy that is going to be because most of African-Americans and Hispanics support the Democratic party because of their ideals. The Democrats try to focus more on the people and more governmental control and the Republicans are the complete opposite so I think that in order for the Republicans to win the Hispanic and African-American votes they are going to have to make some changes to their base ideas.
